HIGHLIGHTS
FROM THE IFH CONFERENCE, DECEMBER 2000
The first international
conference on home hygiene organised by the IFH was held on December 7th
and 8th in London. The conference entitled "Preventing Infectious
Intestinal Disease in the Domestic Setting: A Shared Responsibility"
was organised jointly with the UK Public Health Laboratory Service (PHLS)
and held in association with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical
Medicine.
Over 150 delegates from Europe,
the United States and the rest of the world attended this 2-day meeting,
which brought together experts, academic researchers and hygiene
professionals all interested in the science and practise of home hygiene.
The conference programme covered some of the most important issues today
in the field of home hygiene including recent WHO surveillance data on
foodborne disease across Europe, the development of a rational approach to
hygiene in the domestic setting and a review on the development of
antibacterial and antibiotic resistance.
